US-based Pakistani artist, Zeerak Ahmed / Slowspin produces voice-based sculptures, meditative installations and uniquely fragile sound collages. Slowspin has a distinct sound practice grounded in North Indian classical vocal traditions, dream-folk, ambient and experimental-electronic music. Poetry and melodies in her mother tongue(s)—Urdu, Farsi, Purbi and English—build new textural soundscapes. Exploring new ways of listening, composing and performing the sounding body, she addresses critical immaterial art.
Her latest album, TALISMAN, opens a world of Slowspin's uncanny and heart-wrenching refrains, delivering a balm for the migrant's journey into the unknown: the abyss of love, loss and longing. The collaborative album hosts contributions from a stellar line up of NYC-based musicians including Shahzad Ismaily (Executive Producer), Grey Mcmurray (Co-Producer), Aaron Roche and Greg Fox.
Guitarist, singer and producer Grey Mcmurray has been called “simultaneously chilling and moving”(The Deli Magazine), “sublimely odd”(New York Magazine), and “the world’s least obtrusive guitarist”(The Guardian). He has performed/recorded with artists including Meshell Ndegeocello, Tyondai Braxton, Sid Sriram, Du Yun, Skuli Sverrisson, Beth Orton, Colin Stetson, Sam Amidon, Ali Sethi, John Cale and Laraaji among others. He released his solo debut, Stay Up, on Shahzad Ismaily’s Figureight Records in September 2019. He is a member of The American Contemporary Music Ensemble, the co-leader of the duo itsnotyouitsme with Caleb Burhans, with four releases on New Amsterdam Records, he also produced Caleb Burhans’ acclaimed 2019 album Past Lives. The new collaborative quartet of Grey, Melvin Gibbs, Greg Fox and Sasha Frere-Jones, Body Meπa, released their debut in December 2020. Grey arranged and recorded vocals and guitar on Beth Orton’s critically acclaimed 2022 album,Weather Alive. He hopes everyday to provoke joyful tears in strangers' eyes.
